Post Treatment Care

In order to ensure the success of your treatment it is essential you observe the following instructions.

Advise your doctor of any travel arrangements so treatment can be scheduled appropriately.

Walk for 30 minutes immediately after the treatment.

Walk for 30 minutes every day for the next 2 weeks. Walking minimises the risk of deep vein thrombosis.

Elevate your legs when sitting where practical.

Avoid rigorous activities (e.g. running, sport, high impact aerobics or heavy lifting) for the first 2 weeks.

Mild to moderate exercise such as golf or any easy stationary bike ride is permitted.

You can carry on with your normal work unless otherwise instructed.

Remove the stocking if it causes any discomfort in your foot or leg when sleeping. The stocking should be put on again after rising from bed. Do not cut the stocking and contact the clinic if problems persist.

Should you develop any of the serious symptoms such as soreness or swelling of the calf unrelieved by walking, shortness of breath, chest pain or other chest problems, this may be due to deep vein thrombosis. Contact Brighton Day Surgery immediately or go to the hospital for immediate assessment.

You may experience some pain and heaviness in the legs in the first few days after injection treatment and this may be more noticeable at night. If Endovenous Laser Therapy was used, then you may experience some discomfort in the inner thigh around day 3 after treatment. If this troubles you, take paracetamol or ibuprofen (no sooner than 48 hours after treatment). You can also use a topical anti-inflammatory gel such as Voltaren if needed.

Compression stocking instructions specific to you will be provided at your treatment. However please see below for general information.
